About the GD
The 2002–2005 WRX runs the 2.0L EJ205 with a TD04 turbo and a 5-speed. The 2006–2007 WRX moved to the 2.5L EJ255. The 2004–2007 STI has the EJ257 with a bigger turbo, a 6-speed and the driver-controlled center diff (DCCD). Engine bay parts often split along those lines, so check the years and engine on each listing.
Where to start on a GD
These cars are 19 to 24 years old now, so start with what is worn out. Engine and transmission mounts, the pitch stop, shifter bushings and sway bar end links are tired on most of them, and fresh, stiffer ones make the car feel tighter than any power part will. A rear sway bar is the classic handling fix for the GD's understeer.
For power, get a tune sorted first. An EJ205 WRX with a downpipe and a good tune is the well-known first step. On EJ25 cars, go easy on boost until the tune is dialed in, because the EJ257 does not forgive detonation and ringland failures are the usual result. A boost control solenoid, a bigger top-mount intercooler and an intake come after that.
Parts for these cars are getting harder to find, and some are no longer made. If you are hunting for something specific, ask us.
