A 3-port boost control solenoid gives a tuner tighter control than the stock 2-port unit, but the tune has to be adjusted for it. A stronger bypass valve or blow-off valve holds boost better on a tuned car. A vent-to-atmosphere blow-off valve can upset the idle on MAF-based cars unless the tune accounts for it, so check before you buy one.
